Digital Illustration Studio
Another great year for Digital Illustration!
I have been so impressed with 2021 Digital Illustration emerging artists. They have been focused and dedicated to learning new skills, developing their art practice to a deeper level on digital platforms Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. No small feat in the online space. We worked together and grew as a community over the weeks.
We worked together through a variety of projects designed to increase process and ideation for illustration as well as a broad range of digital technical skills in the Adobe programs. We launched into the month with a firm favourite with students, Character illustration. An assignment to develop one distinct character with a twist, combining characteristics from human form, animal, Insect, bird or mythic creature. Their process involved research, bringing together reference materials, sketching ideas then exploring and developing imaginative possibilities in Adobe Photoshop.
While digital illustration was our focus, we also practiced observational drawing from life, building knowledge of fundamental elements and principles of art. Students incorporated these studies into their assignments. The accumulation of this intensive study and development of digital technical skills is displayed in these wonderful artworks in this years’ Online Exhibition.
Congratulations – SIT Digital Illustration Class 2021. I feel very proud of these sixteen young artist illustrators! It has been a joy to watch their creative process, progression in skills and overall development this July.
Enjoy the show.
