Media Arts

In this year’s media arts studio we explored formal ways of working with photography, video, sound, and animation. Students worked with themes that were close to them personally and were encouraged to adapt and evolve their projects as technical barriers came down. Works that may have begun as photographs transformed into videos and animations. The first 3 weeks we worked on prototyping and creating proof of concepts which engaged with new technical explorations. Our final week was a time for students to set their own schedules and determine how they wanted to devout their energy.

We were also invited by Jody Kramer to join the animation studio for a guest artist talk by Juan Pablo Zaramella which opened us up to the potential of working with stop motion animation. We also met with the Native Youth Program via the Museum of Anthropology and were joined by artist Skeena Reece to hear her speak about her work.

We’re all excited to see each others’ final works as well as those of our peers on the exhibition website. Many thanks to Maria Cecillia, Lori Lai, Mirna Abdelsayed and the others in continuing studies who made SIT possible.
