She plans to continue a career in art with the hopes of bringing in more diversity and more specifically South-Asian representation in the animation and T.V industry. Some of her influences have been friends and high school art teachers, as well as her parents who encourage and support her in her artistic journey. Tanya has previously won an art competition led by The Royal Canadian Legion, gotten an award in art from The University of Winnipeg Collegiate, and has also done live charcoal drawings at an art exhibition at The Kings School.
Tanya’s next upcoming project is being featured in Emily Carr University of Art and Design’s Summer Institute for Teens online art exhibit. Her art will not only be featured there but she will also be on the art exhibition committee being one of the representatives of the drawing studio.
Artist Statement
Many of my works hold some sort of personal meaning, whether it's on a topic that is more personal such as race or body image or something lighter such as happiness and fun , each one holds some sort of emotional weight. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums and becoming multi-faceted and not staying in my comfort zone by trying different materials. Some of my pieces are made with the intent of focusing more on technical skill such as my still life piece with the cow and frog, and others are more creatively challenging such as my character design project. I hope to inspire others with my works by provoking their creativity and challenge different drawing traditional techniques by creating my own way of doing things as well as include more South-Asian representation in the art industry since growing up I never really saw someone like me doing art or being in a cartoon, and I would love to help represent my culture and inspire other South-Asian kids and/or people to do art as a way to express their thoughts and feelings.
