Communication Design

During the month of July, I had the pleasure of working with a group of talented young artists and designers who were tasked with producing a series of graphic design assignments and projects. The intensive course format meant that we had go over the A to Z of design, from learning about design principles and art movements, to understanding hierarchy in communication design, and conveying messages using typography and images. I was excited to see each student interpret the brief using their own voice and strengths. Some had very experimental approaches to designing and spent hours exploring what the software could afford, creating intricate visuals that expressed their aesthetics and preferences, while others were focused on understanding the rules of communication and producing ready-to-print layouts that spoke to a mainstream audience. It was inspiring to witness all the students’ attempts at finding their own designers’ voices and seeing them progress through the course and become more familiar with the learned tools. I humbly congratulate everyone on their tremendous efforts and wish them abundant curiosity and inspiration.
