Title: Mine or Yours?

In the United States, reproductive rights are in the hands of a select few. Due to inadequate government measures and the false idea of democracy, new laws do not reflect citizens’ beliefs. In Missouri, a very red and conservative state, abortion is completely banned. No exceptions. This extremely dangerous law is a complete violation of civil rights for all the people in the US. Especially for a nation that considers itself the greatest country in the world. This piece is based on these issues and personal fears, coming from someone that lives in Missouri. Also, in the media, the female body is sexualized and prohibited in all forms. For some reason, the world views every aspect of our bodies as something that shouldn’t be shown. I wanted to combat this by making the woman’s breasts fully out. I also made her arms in a figure that somewhat represents the shape of a uterus. It’s not too noticeable, however, the subtleness is important. Reproductive organs are not everything an AFAB (assigned female at birth) individual has to offer. Additionally, the red and pink halo around her head symbolizes the anger and fear that most AFAB people have while living in such a dystopia. It can also be seen more literally, as in reference to a menstrual cycle. All of these are key themes in why I created this piece. All types of people need to come face to face with certain issues humanity is facing, and art is a spectacular method of bringing awareness.
